Apple points to new evidence in case against OpenAI

Apple announced on Monday that it has uncovered new evidence in its ongoing trade secrets case against OpenAI. According to the company, before joining OpenAI, former Apple employee Chang Liu used the company's internal information to train an artificial intelligence agent.

Apple claims that in March 2026, Chang Liu, who worked at Apple as a senior systems electrical engineering engineer, gained access to power converter device schematics while at OpenAI and used Apple's confidential information to train an AI agent.

According to Apple, the new evidence was found on a MacBook computer that OpenAI handed over to Apple on August 21 as part of the legal proceedings.

The company is now asking a US federal court to expedite the discovery and evidence exchange process in the ongoing trade secrets case against OpenAI.

OpenAI, for its part, is seeking to have Apple's lawsuit dismissed, stating that the company builds products that are "entirely new."

OpenAI has not immediately commented on Apple's new allegations.
