The US is preparing new banking sanctions against Iran

The US is planning to tighten sanctions against Iran. According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, new restrictions will already hit one bank this week, with additional sanctions to be announced next week.

Washington is focusing on banks and companies that cooperate with Iran's Revolutionary Guard. According to Bessent, the sanctions could also affect aircraft leasing companies and other businesses.

The US is also seeking to freeze the overseas assets and bank accounts of Iran's Revolutionary Guard. Bessent noted that the next step could be a complete restriction on dollar transactions for some bank.

He also noted that the US is discussing with China the issues of Iran's nuclear program and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
