China Partially Resumes Imports of Nvidia Chips

China's government will allow the country's leading technology companies to purchase a limited number of Nvidia H200 chips. This decision is linked to the shortage of computing resources needed for artificial intelligence development, which has created serious challenges for Chinese companies.

According to reports, Chinese officials have already informed Alibaba, ByteDance, and DeepSeek that they may soon receive permission to purchase advanced American-made chips.

The US government had previously granted Nvidia permission to supply H200 chips to China, but Beijing blocked the process. China's government was seeking to support local manufacturers and reduce dependence on foreign technologies.

At this stage, the discussion concerns the purchase of fewer than 200,000 chips. This is not even half the amount that Chinese companies requested at the beginning of the year.

Due to American export restrictions and Beijing's policies, Nvidia has lost almost its entire position in the Chinese market, though demand in the artificial intelligence sector has grown so significantly that China's government was forced to partially allow Nvidia chip purchases.

At the same time, Nvidia has also informed Chinese clients about its new "Vera" processors. Their ordering may become possible starting in August.
