Jefferies Moves to "Hold" Rating on Pediatrix Medical Shares

Pediatrix Medical's shares declined 1.2% in pre-market trading after investment bank Jefferies downgraded the company's stock rating from "Buy" to "Hold." Despite this, the bank raised its price target from $27 to $28.

According to Jefferies' assessment, Pediatrix's strong recovery in recent years has already been largely reflected in the stock price. The company's shares have risen approximately 150% over the past two years and 61% in the last 12 months.

According to analysts, operational improvements implemented by management — including exiting less profitable ambulatory segments and resolving revenue management issues — have significantly strengthened the company, though this progress is already largely factored into the current stock valuation.

Jefferies also views potential changes to Affordable Care Act premium tax credits as a possible headwind in the future, which could limit the company's earnings growth rate. Additionally, the stock's valuation has returned to its long-term average EV/EBITDA multiple, which is why the bank assessed the risk-reward ratio more neutrally.

The rating downgrade followed Pediatrix's second-quarter 2026 results. The company beat expectations with adjusted earnings per share of $0.63 and revenue of $488 million. However, Pediatrix maintained its full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance at $280–300 million and did not raise it.
