German Exports to Britain Declined by 7%

Brexit has left a significant negative mark on Germany-UK trade relations, which is clearly reflected in the figures.
According to data from the German Institute for Economic Research (IW), German goods exports to Britain have declined by approximately 7% since 2016. These figures stand in sharp contrast to the situation with other EU member states, where German exports increased by 41% during the same period (2016-2025).
It is worth noting that the situation was entirely different before the 2016 referendum. In the period from 2006 to 2015, German exports to Britain grew by almost 38%, which significantly exceeded the 20% growth recorded in other EU states.
According to IW researchers' assessment, Brexit has caused economic damage to both sides. The institute concludes that it is in Germany's economic interests for Britain to either reverse its decision or return to Europe's single market.
