US Delays Imposing Sanctions Against Chinese Tech Giants

Despite security agencies viewing Chinese artificial intelligence startups and major semiconductor manufacturers as threats, Washington is currently avoiding taking strict economic measures against them. As is known, the administration of the U.S. President postponed adding the Chinese AI startup DeepSeek and CXMT, a manufacturer of memory chips, to the trade "blacklist." Although the relevant decision was agreed upon by an interagency committee as far back as last year, Washington is not rushing to publicly announce this step at the moment.
This decision is an attempt to avoid further escalating already strained relations with Beijing. Currently, more than 100 companies are in line to be added to the special list of the U.S. Department of Commerce, with more than 75 of them being Chinese entities.
It is worth noting that American senior officials accuse DeepSeek of supporting China's military and intelligence operations, while CXMT is officially considered a Chinese military company by the Pentagon.
Being added to this list represents serious restrictions for companies: they will require special licenses to purchase American products, software, and technologies. It is noteworthy that since October 2025, the U.S. has not added new entities to this list — this is the longest pause in making similar decisions over the past decade.
