# Europe Seeks to Strengthen Technological Independence

This week, France is at the epicenter of global technological debate, where the future of Europe is being discussed. The main theme of the G7 summit and VivaTech conference currently taking place in France is the region's technological sovereignty. Since the United States restricted access to Anthropic's advanced artificial intelligence (AI) models for foreign nationals, European politicians and business representatives have been more actively discussing the need to create their own technological base.
Europe is currently largely dependent on American giants (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic), which lead in the areas of data storage and online services, semiconductor (chip) manufacturing, and research. According to France's Prime Minister, the country urgently needs its own digital tools to avoid dependence on foreign states.
In response to existing challenges, the European Commission plans to develop state-of-the-art AI production facilities and large-scale computing infrastructure. Additionally, legislative initiatives have been prepared that aim to encourage local production and reduce dependence on American technologies. However, according to experts, Europe still lags significantly behind American competitors, and the use of local online platforms and servers for business may prove 40% more expensive. The ultimate goal is not merely to completely replace foreign technologies, but to create a strategy through which Europe maintains full control over critically important technological processes.
