Italy's Machinery Sector Demands Strict Trade Rules from EU Against China

Italy's machinery manufacturers association UCIMU calls on the European Union to tighten competition conditions with Chinese companies. According to the organization, the same technical and safety standards that apply to European manufacturers should be extended to equipment imported from China.

UCIMU states that Chinese companies have largely satisfied domestic market demand and are now rapidly increasing exports. In 2025, China's share of global exports of metal processing equipment reached 23%, compared to 8% in 2016. Over the same period, Europe's share declined from 52% to 46%.

Italy's indicators have also worsened. The country's share of global exports fell from 8.4% to 7.8%, while Italian equipment exports to China dropped from €316 million to €110 million. According to the association's assessment, without unified European rules, local manufacturers will face even tougher competition.
