100,000 researchers are freely using OpenAI's latest models

OpenAI has introduced a new program under which 100,000 researchers working at academic institutions will use the company's latest artificial intelligence models for free.

The program, called ChatGPT for Academic Researchers, will launch in the summer with 10,000 participants and will grow to 100,000 researchers by 2027. The service is already available at several institutions, including the Institute for Advanced Study and École normale supérieure.

Participants will use GPT-5.6 models, and each researcher will also have the opportunity to add four colleagues from their own institution. According to OpenAI, data security will be protected in work spaces.

The company plans to allocate over $250 million through 2027 to support scientific research. This amount includes a $50 million NextGenAI program that helps research institutions.

According to OpenAI's data, approximately 1.3 million people use ChatGPT every week for complex scientific and mathematical tasks. The company also offers researchers specialized training and assistance from experts experienced in research activities.
