Apple will unveil a new smart home device on October 13.

Apple is planning to unveil a new device for the smart home. The company will introduce the device, known as J490, on October 13.

The new product will feature a roughly six-inch square display. It will be possible to mount it on a wall or place it on a table. The device will recognize family members and offer each of them information tailored to their own account and data.

With its features, J490 will compete with Amazon Echo and Google Home. Apple already has HomePod and HomePod mini in the smart home space, though the company lags behind Amazon and Google in this market.

At the same event, an updated HomePod mini and Apple TV may also be unveiled. The new version of the HomePod mini will be the first since 2020, while the Apple TV will be updated for the first time since 2022. The design will remain almost unchanged, but the devices will come with faster processors to better support Siri's new AI features.

Apple has not yet officially confirmed this information.
