The US Administration Plans to Resume Oil Project in California

Three ministers from US President Donald Trump's administration are visiting the Sable oil project off the California coast. The main topics of the meeting will be the project's revival and the legal dispute with the state of California.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy will discuss with company leadership how oil extraction can continue within the project's framework. The main source of disagreement between the parties is the 2015 oil spill linked to the project's oil pipeline.

The federal government supports the project's restoration and increased oil production in California, although state authorities, including Governor Gavin Newsom, prioritize renewable energy sources in energy policy. Due to existing opposition, Sable is also considering alternative approaches. There is discussion of an offshore oil tanker loading system in open waters, which would allow the company to bypass waters under state control and continue the project in a different form.
