# The US Elections Could Change the Rules for the Tech Sector

Midterm elections will be held in the US on November 3. The outcome will determine which party controls Congress and what rules will apply going forward to technology companies, government spending and the budget.

If the Democrats win a majority in both chambers, large technology companies and data centers could face stricter requirements. This includes independent audits of artificial intelligence models, safety rules and mandatory disclosure of serious incidents.

If the Democrats win the House of Representatives while the Republicans retain the Senate, the two chambers of Congress will be controlled by different parties. In this scenario, a prolonged dispute over raising the federal debt ceiling in 2027 and a temporary government shutdown are also possible.

If the Republicans retain their majority in both chambers, the likelihood of new restrictions being imposed on the artificial intelligence sector will decrease, although tax cuts and increased defense spending could further widen the budget deficit.
