# US Federal Reserve Considers Raising Interest Rates

The Federal Reserve of the United States faces economic challenges and difficult decisions as inflation levels have remained above target for years. According to Jeffrey Schmid, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, the main question today is whether the regulatory body should exercise patience and keep interest rates unchanged, or instead raise them to reduce inflation.

Speaking at an economic forum held in Oklahoma, Schmid emphasized the urgency of the problem: "Our inflation readings have apparently risen to around 3.5%, which nobody likes." According to him, the most important thing now is to determine whether this is a temporary phenomenon or whether decisive action is already necessary. Accordingly, the Federal Reserve must decide whether the time has come to raise interest rates by one or two quarters in order to control the situation and bring down inflation.

Against the backdrop of this economic dilemma, despite the concerns expressed by Schmid, there are differing opinions within the central bank itself. For example, Williams, a representative of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, believes that interest rates are currently exactly "where they should be." This suggests that a unified, firm position within the regulatory body has not yet been formed.
