US Senate Report Points to Widespread Use of USDT in Iran-Linked Networks

According to a report prepared by US Senate Democrats, Tether's dollar-pegged cryptocurrency USDT is widely used in Iran-related financial transactions. The document also mentions sanctioned organizations, including Hezbollah.
The report's authors examined 846 crypto wallets sanctioned by the US and Israel. According to their data, USDT was used in 84% of the wallets.
This cryptocurrency makes it easier for individuals and organizations linked to Iran to transfer funds and continue financial operations despite sanctions.
The report was prepared under the leadership of Senator Richard Blumenthal. He called on the US Departments of the Treasury and Justice to investigate Tether's activities.
Tether denies the allegations and states that it cooperates with US authorities. According to the company, in 2026 it froze nearly $550 million worth of USDT linked to Iran. Tether also says it is taking measures against the use of its cryptocurrency by sanctioned individuals and terrorist organizations.
