US-Canada Trade Tensions May Drive Up Prices for Some Products in America

New tariffs imposed by the US on Canadian goods may increase product prices in America. This concerns dairy products, honey, clothing, cosmetics, and other merchandise.

The recently imposed 50% tariffs by the US affect approximately $20 billion worth of Canadian goods, which represents approximately 5% of products imported annually to the US from Canada.

According to the Yale Budget Lab, tariffs imposed by the US on various countries will cost the average American household $1,077 per year. The share of new tariffs specifically on Canadian goods from this amount is approximately $30.

Additionally, Donald Trump plans to increase tariffs on automobiles, auto parts, and trucks manufactured in Canada from 25% to 50% starting January 2027.

According to analysts, if this decision is fully implemented, automobiles could become more expensive, and the change could also impact the US auto industry.
