US Imposes Sanctions on Nine Cuban Organizations and Three Individuals

The United States imposed sanctions on nine Cuban organizations and three individuals. According to Washington's statement, they support Cuba's government and participate in activities directed against the United States.
The sanctions targeted the leadership of Cuba's Institute for Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) and nine organizations, including the country's Ministry of Construction.
According to U.S. State Secretary Marco Rubio, ICAP financed a network operating in the United States that sought to recruit supporters and establish connections with them through educational and cultural exchange programs. According to him, Cuba recently used the centennial of Fidel Castro's birth to bring supporters to Havana and arrange meetings with government representatives.
The new sanctions are based on Trump's May executive order, which tightened restrictions against Cuban government representatives, security forces, and their supporters.
