AstraZeneca plans to invest over $1 billion in Massachusetts

AstraZeneca has opened a new research center in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The company plans to invest more than $1 billion in the state and will grow its workforce by more than 50% over the coming years.

The 18-story building, located in Kendall Square, covers approximately 53,000 square meters. Ten floors are occupied by laboratories, where robots, automated equipment, and artificial intelligence technologies will be used for research.

Nearly 2,000 scientists will work at the new center and the company's nearby genomic medicine facility. Core research will focus on cancer, chronic and rare diseases, and cell therapy.

The planned investment in Massachusetts is part of a $50 billion U.S. plan. The company has 24 research, manufacturing, and commercial facilities in the U.S., employing more than 25,000 people there.
