Broadcom offers Anthropic funding of up to $42 billion

Broadcom has offered Anthropic up to $42 billion in funding. The goal is to use technologies needed for artificial intelligence systems, as well as chips developed with Broadcom's assistance. The information appeared in documents Anthropic prepared ahead of a potential IPO.

This amount will partially cover Anthropic's costs related to the use of Google's TPU chips. The company has budgeted up to $125.2 billion for this service over the next five years. The loan received from Broadcom could later be converted into Anthropic shares.

Broadcom is one of Anthropic's key technology partners. By 2027, Anthropic could become the largest customer of Broadcom's chip business.

In the documents, Anthropic also points to a possible conflict of interest. Pricing and other decisions made by Broadcom could affect the price and volume at which Anthropic obtains the technological resources it needs. Neither Broadcom nor Anthropic has commented.
