Chinese Hackers Using DeepSeek for Cyberattacks

Chinese government-affiliated hacker groups are using DeepSeek and other open-source artificial intelligence models to prepare cyberattacks. According to data from Taiwanese research company TeamT5, the number of attacks carried out by these groups has doubled following the adoption of these technologies.

Hackers use artificial intelligence at various stages of cyberattacks. They use it to gather information on targets, identify system vulnerabilities, and create code necessary for the attack.

According to TeamT5, DeepSeek is particularly popular among Chinese hacker groups because the model has relatively fewer security restrictions and is inexpensive to use.

The research company has identified several specific cases. The hacker group Grimfengxi used DeepSeek to create code necessary for infiltrating systems. Huapi launched an attack on a Taiwanese company's email system with the help of a Chinese artificial intelligence model. Researchers believe DeepSeek was also used in this case. Another group, Teleboyi, used artificial intelligence to find 1,000 IP addresses on the internet and gathered information about companies' domains.
