Chinese Company SAIC Motor Plans to Establish First Production Facility in Spain
Chinese company SAIC Motor is planning to build a new factory in the Galicia region, which will be its first manufacturing facility in Europe.
SAIC Motor, which owns the popular MG brand in Europe, will locate the factory at the port of Ferrol. The project is considered one of the strategic priorities for the Galicia regional government. The initial investment is approximately €200 million.
According to the plan, construction will begin next year, and the factory will become fully operational from 2028 onwards. The facility will create approximately 1,000 direct jobs and will focus on the use of local parts in production.
After completion of the project's second phase, the factory will be capable of producing 120,000 vehicles annually. The final decision now depends on Spain's central government, which must grant permission for the implementation of foreign investment.
