European Union Surveys Publishers' Opinions on Google's New Rule

The European Union has asked media outlets and online publications to assess Google's new rule. Google is giving them the option to no longer use their content in artificial intelligence features. At the same time, this decision is not supposed to affect their sites' ranking in regular search results.
This concerns AI Overviews - a Google feature that displays AI-generated brief answers in search results. According to media outlets, this often causes users to stop visiting their sites, leading to a decline in visitors and revenue.
Google offered this option to media outlets in June and plans to expand it to other countries in the future.
The EU is now assessing how well this change addresses the media outlets' problem. If Brussels concludes that their concerns remain valid, Google could face a new fine.
