GameStop Shares Could Move 4.7% After September 8 Earnings Report

GameStop's shares could move by 4.7% on September 8, after the company releases its second-quarter financial results following the close of trading. Options data compiled by Bloomberg indicates that the market is bracing for a move of this magnitude.

A look back at the last eight quarterly reports shows that the move implied by options has typically exceeded the actual change. Only once did the stock's actual move surpass the move implied by options.

The clearest exception occurred on March 25, 2025, when GameStop shares surged 20.7% after the earnings release, while the options market had priced in a move of about 11.4%.

At the most recent report, on June 2, the stock rose just 1%, while options data pointed to a 6.1% move. Before that, on March 24, shares fell 0.9%, while the implied move was 5.3%.

The largest implied move for GameStop shares over the last eight quarters was recorded on September 10, 2024, when options priced in a 12.5% change. In reality, the stock price fell 11.9% that day.

Meanwhile, the company's preliminary figures indicate that second-quarter net sales will come in at $780–800 million, down from $972.2 million in the same period last year. Despite this, GameStop expects quarterly net income to rise to $290–310 million, compared with $168.6 million a year earlier.

GameStop's full second-quarter results will be released on September 8, after which investors' attention will turn to the company's revenue trends, profitability, and strategic plans.

Note: Different options platforms currently show varying expected moves — for example, Options AI estimates a move of about 8.1% — so the 4.7% figure specifically reflects Bloomberg's data.
