Google Cloud Outage Causes Problems for Millions of Banking Customers

European financial regulators are demanding an explanation from Google after a multi-hour Google Cloud outage disrupted banking services for millions of people. The disruption affected customers of Revolut, Lloyds, and HSBC.
According to Google, the problem was caused by a power-related failure at a partner facility in London. Some Revolut customers were unable to log into their accounts, make card payments, or withdraw cash from ATMs. The bank stated that customers' money and data were not put at risk.
The European Banking Authority is investigating the scale of the outage, while the UK Parliament has requested detailed information from the central bank and financial regulator. Google Cloud is required to inform regulators of serious disruptions of this kind.
