Intel Shares Atom Processor Technology with New Startup

Intel is allowing RosaicLabs, a startup developing new chips, to use its Atom processor technology. According to Reuters, this is a rare decision for the American company, as Intel typically does not share the technical details of its own x86 architecture and processors with other companies.

Intel plans to transfer the Atom processor's RTL code to Rosaic. RTL code describes how different parts of a chip should function, and engineers can use it to create their own processors. In this way, the startup will gain access to a significant portion of Intel's intellectual property and will develop its own design based on it.

Atom processors consume relatively less electricity and generate less heat, which is why they are frequently used in mobile devices and small computer systems.

RosaicLabs was registered in Delaware in May 2026. The company is led by Amarjit Gill. Gill and Intel's Chief Executive Officer Lip-Bu Tan were early investors in several technology startups. Among them was Nuvia, which was later acquired by Qualcomm. Gill also participated in building the team at Rivos, a chip company where Tan was chairman at that time.

According to Reuters, RosaicLabs' founding team also includes former employees of Rivos. Based on updated documents filed in Delaware, the startup plans to raise approximately $10 million in funding at the initial stage. Intel declined to provide additional comments on the deal.
