KKR Acquires EDF's Renewable Energy Business

KKR expands renewable energy direction in North America. The investment company is acquiring EDF's wind, solar, and energy storage assets in the US and Canada for $4.2 billion.

The deal covers EDF's renewable energy business in North America. According to the agreement, KKR will pay an additional up to $390 million upon fulfillment of certain conditions.

The transaction represents a financially significant step for EDF. The French state-owned company plans to use the proceeds to finance nuclear energy in France. The focus is on maintaining 57 existing reactors and constructing 6 new energy blocks.

KKR's interest in renewable energy is linked to growing demand for electricity. The demand is driven by data center expansion, artificial intelligence development, and electrification processes.

The portfolio to be acquired includes wind and solar projects with 26 gigawatts of capacity, energy storage systems, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
