Microsoft is offering approximately 60,000 employees the option to leave voluntarily

Microsoft has offered a voluntary departure program to approximately 60,000 employees. This represents more than a quarter of the company's workforce.
The program will be temporary and will apply to employees working in the US, Canada, India and the UK. The offer extends to part of the teams working on artificial intelligence, Copilot, finance, human resources, Xbox, Windows and devices.
Employees in marketing, commercial and cybersecurity are not included in the program. As of June 30, Microsoft had 223,000 full-time employees worldwide.
The company plans to spend approximately $175 billion on data centers, chips and other technologies needed for artificial intelligence in 2026.
In parallel, Microsoft is also changing its employee headcount and team structures. The company had previously offered a voluntary departure program to about 9,000 employees in the US, and in July it cut 4,800 jobs and sold several gaming studios.
