A teenager filed a lawsuit against Meta just days before the court proceedings.

A 15-year-old resident of Florida filed a lawsuit against Meta ahead of a trial that was set to begin just days later, accusing the company's platforms of causing depression and anxiety.

The teenager, identified by the initials R.K.C. in court documents, has been using social networks since approximately age 8. According to his claims, he became dependent on the platforms, experienced disrupted sleep patterns, and developed depression and anxiety.

The lawsuit was initially filed against four companies: Meta's Instagram, Google's YouTube, Snap's Snapchat, and ByteDance's TikTok. YouTube and TikTok settled the case in June, and according to Bloomberg, Snap also reached a pre-trial settlement with the plaintiff.

The trial against Meta was scheduled to begin in Los Angeles; however, the teenager's attorneys announced that claims related to the company were dismissed. The reasons for this decision have not been made public at this stage.
