Netherlands and China Seek Agreement on Nexperia

Netherlands Seeks to Ease Semiconductor Tensions with China. The main topic of the visit to Beijing centers on the dispute surrounding Nexperia, which remains one of the key points of disagreement between Europe and China.

Dutch Trade Minister Shurd Shurds states that the parties are actively working on the Nexperia issue. This is the first visit to China by a Dutch trade minister since 2018, and its aim is to revive economic dialogue between the two countries.

Nexperia is a chip manufacturer based in the Netherlands that is owned by Chinese company Wingtech. In 2025, the Dutch government intervened in the company's management process on national security grounds. Following this, Nexperia's Chinese subsidiary was separated from the European structure, which further escalated the dispute.

According to the minister, resolving the issue requires that the European and Chinese sides of the company reach an agreement. At the same time, the Netherlands asserts that its export controls are strict and aim only to restrict technologies that could pose a threat to the country's security.

This process is taking place against the backdrop of technological competition between the US and China. Washington is urging the Netherlands to more strictly monitor the supply of advanced equipment needed for semiconductor manufacturing for China, including ASML systems.
