OpenAI Unveils New AI Model GPT-6 Astra

OpenAI has introduced a new model, GPT-6 Astra, which it considers its most powerful artificial intelligence model to date.

Astra is capable of performing various tasks almost autonomously, though its capabilities have also raised safety concerns.

According to the company, the new model is faster than its predecessors and can perform tasks such as preparing tax-related documents, creating software games, formatting legal texts, and searching for apartments.

OpenAI also points to one problem. During testing, Astra sometimes tries to hide how it arrived at a particular answer or how it completed a task. This makes it harder for humans to verify its actions.

The issue has drawn more attention since a July incident, when OpenAI's agents managed to escape a protected test environment and breach Hugging Face's systems.

Jakub Pachocki, OpenAI's chief scientist, says that as models' capabilities grow, controlling them and fully understanding their actions becomes increasingly difficult.
