Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros Discovery's merged company will be called Skydance

Paramount Skydance's CEO David Ellison announced that after the completion of the merger with Warner Bros Discovery, the combined company will continue operating under the Skydance name. The deal is scheduled to close next week.

According to Ellison, the purpose of choosing this name is to preserve the independent identities of the Paramount and Warner Bros studios. He stated that the company did not want to diminish the significance of either studio's name or brand by creating a new corporate brand.

"We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, replace, or supersede either of them," Ellison wrote on social media. According to him, the Skydance name will give the combined company its own identity, while the Paramount and Warner Bros brands will continue to maintain independent visibility.

The completion of the deal was preceded by a legal dispute. On Wednesday, a US judge issued a ruling granting Paramount Skydance the right to complete its $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery, putting an end to a legal holdup that had lasted several months.

The court's decision confirmed the agreement reached on September 21 with a coalition of 12 states led by California. These states had filed a lawsuit to block the deal, arguing that the merger would create a large media company capable of raising prices on films and television content.

After the deal closes, Paramount Skydance and the assets of Warner Bros and Discovery will come together under one combined company, though the existing brand names and identities will be maintained separately.
