SEC Presents New Cryptocurrency Regulation Framework

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has unveiled a new initiative related to crypto assets aimed at simplifying rules in effect on the market and creating greater legal clarity. The document continues the guidance published in March 2026 and addresses transactions related to digital assets.

The initiative includes two exemptions. The first applies to companies that receive up to $5 million in investment over a four-year period, while the second covers projects whose annual funding does not exceed $75 million. In both cases, companies will be required to provide detailed information, and for offerings of up to $75 million, they will also be obligated to regularly publish financial data.

The initiative also establishes conditions under which, if met, a crypto asset will no longer be subject to regulations established for securities.

According to SEC Chair Paul Atkins, the goal of the new rules is to create a clearer framework for the crypto market while Congress develops long-term regulation in this sector. The public comment period on the initiative will last 60 days, after which the Commission will review the comments received.
