Starbucks Considers Selling Major Stake in Its Japanese Business

Starbucks is considering selling a controlling stake in its Japanese business. The company is working with financial advisors on the matter and is exploring the possibility of negotiations with interested investors. If sold, Starbucks' Japanese business could be valued at approximately $3 billion.

Starbucks has not yet made a final decision, and the company may still decide against selling the stake. If the deal goes through, the American chain will retain a stake in the Japanese business, though control will pass to the new investor.

Japan is one of Starbucks' key international markets. The company opened its first location in the country in 1996 and now has around 2,000 cafes there.

Starbucks has recently been restructuring its business in various countries. In July, the company sold a controlling stake in its China business. The possible deal in Japan also suggests that Starbucks is strengthening its collaboration with local partners in international markets while reducing its own role in business management.
