Wendy's Shares Plunge Over 14% - Trian Fund Management Declines Possible Acquisition

Wendy's shares fell by more than 14% in premarket trading on Thursday after Reuters reported that Nelson Peltz's investment firm, Trian Fund Management, has stepped back from a potential acquisition of the burger chain at this stage.

According to Reuters sources, Trian does not currently plan to make an offer to take Wendy's private.

One of the reasons cited for the decision is existing concern over the company's operations, including the current share price, valuation multiples, and Wendy's existing strategic direction.

Trian has long been a major shareholder in Wendy's, holding approximately 16% of the company. Earlier this month, it was reported that the investment firm was working on an acquisition offer for Wendy's together with a consortium of investors that included BlueFive Capital and Flynn Group, a Wendy's franchisee.

That news drove Wendy's share price up 14.7% on August 12. Following the subsequent rally, the stock reached approximately $9, while the company's market capitalization stood at around $1.72 billion.

However, following the news of Trian's potential withdrawal from the acquisition, Wendy's shares fell 13.3% after Wednesday's market close, and the decline continued in Thursday's premarket trading.

According to Reuters sources, Trian is not ruling out a final decision on future steps and still remains open to a possible deal with the company.
