Anthropic Plans to Work on Its Own Chips Alongside Samsung

Anthropic, the company developing the Claude artificial intelligence, is beginning work on creating its own chips. For this purpose, the company is holding negotiations with Samsung.

The issue is significant because today, a large portion of artificial intelligence companies are dependent on Nvidia's chips. Many major AI models operate with these chips. Anthropic, however, wants to avoid dependence on a single supplier.

According to available information, the company is considering using Samsung's 2-nanometer technology. The discussion concerns chips that are necessary for the operation and development of artificial intelligence models.

The project is currently in its early stages. Detailed engineering work has not yet begun, although Anthropic has already started strengthening its team. The company has hired Clive Chan, who previously worked on chip development at OpenAI.

It is worth noting that Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and OpenAI are already working on creating their own chips. The reason is nearly the same for all of them: developing artificial intelligence requires significant computational resources, and Nvidia's chips are expensive while demand for them is very high.

Additionally, Anthropic does not plan to replace existing partners. Amazon's Trainium chips, Google's processors, and Nvidia's graphics cards will remain important for the company.

For Samsung, this agreement will be an important step. The company is seeking to become stronger competition for TSMC in chip manufacturing. Against this backdrop, investors are watching whether Samsung will be able to produce 2-nanometer chips stably and effectively.
