The US is working on restoring an oil pipeline through Iraq and Syria

The US is considering the possibility of restoring the Kirkuk-Banyas oil pipeline with Iraq and Syria. According to Washington's assessment, the project will expand energy supply routes and reduce Iran's influence in the region.

The oil pipeline, which transports Iraqi oil to Syria's Mediterranean coast, has not been operational for approximately two decades. If restored, it would enable oil transportation to bypass the Strait of Hormuz, opening yet another alternative route for energy supply.

The negotiations are being led by Thomas Baraka, the US Special Envoy. In addition to Iraqi and Syrian officials, American companies, including Chevron, are also participating in the process.

The US State Department states that it supports the development of trade and energy routes in the region and hopes that American companies will also participate in the project.

President Donald Trump has already held a meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Al-Zaide. According to him, additional details about large-scale cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector will be revealed in the near future.
