Germany's economic growth forecast tripled

Germany's economic institute, IW, has significantly raised the country's 2026 economic growth forecast. According to the new projection, Germany's economy will grow by almost 1.2% this year. In May, the institute had expected growth of only 0.4%.
The main reasons for the improved forecast are export growth and increased government spending in the first half of the year.
IW expects economic growth to slow in the second half of the year. Among the reasons cited are high energy costs, weak private investment, and job losses. For 2027, the institute forecasts growth of about 1%.
Germany's real exports are expected to grow by 2.8% this year, while imports are projected to rise by 2%. Growth in private consumption is expected to be limited to only 0.3%. According to the institute's forecast, inflation will remain above 2.5% in 2026, which limits the population's purchasing power.
