# Instagram's Head to Testify in Court on Ongoing Case Against Meta

Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, will testify in court in a case concerning the impact of Facebook and Instagram on children and adolescents.

A lawsuit against Meta has been filed by 29 U.S. states. Some of them accuse the company of designing platforms in a way that would encourage users, including minors, to spend as much time as possible on social networks. Four states also claim that these features intensified anxiety and depression among young people, while Meta failed to properly disclose risks related to safety.

All 29 states assert that the company illegally collected and used personal data of children under 13 years old. The potential fine could reach as much as 200 billion dollars.

Meta denies the allegations. The company states that creating addiction to social networks among children was not its goal, and its own research does not show a direct link between adolescents' social media usage and deterioration of their well-being.

The court proceedings in Oakland will continue throughout September. The judge will make a final decision determining whether Meta bears responsibility and what sanctions may be imposed on the company.
