Meta Continues Negotiations with the EU Over Facebook and Instagram

Meta continues negotiations with the European Commission over Facebook and Instagram. The European Union's attention is focused on those social network features that could increase dependency among users.
The European Commission preliminarily concluded two years ago that Meta may have violated requirements of the Digital Services Act. The issue concerns Facebook and Instagram features designed to boost user engagement, which raise questions about potential dependency risks within the EU.
According to European Commission spokesperson Thomas Regnier, Meta can still propose specific changes to Brussels and attempt to resolve the issue this way.
The Commission has not commented on the agreement reached between Meta and nearly all US states, which involves a payment of $18 billion and additional commitments from the company.
