Starlink Plans to Offer Cheap Satellite Internet in India

According to Elon Musk, Starlink will offer satellite internet in India at a relatively low price. The company will have to compete with Reliance Jio, though tariffs have not yet been published.

The statement was made ahead of Jio Platforms' planned IPO. The company expects to be valued at approximately $106 billion when it goes public, which would make it the largest IPO in India's history.

Starlink and Jio have not yet received final approval to operate in India. Musk attributes the delay in the process to the government and Mukesh Ambani. The Indian government disagrees with this, stating that all companies undergo the same review process.

Mobile internet in India is already very cheap: one gigabyte costs around 8 cents on average. This means Starlink will need to offer lower prices in the local market compared to other countries. The company has already introduced similar pricing in Kenya.
