# Technology Giants Fund Ecological Innovation Fund for Data Centers

Non-profit investment organization Elemental Impact has launched a new project called the "Data Center Innovation Initiative." The initiative's partners are leading global technology companies: Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft. The main objective is to accelerate the deployment of clean energy and ecological materials technologies in data centers.
By the end of 2027, the project plans to finance approximately 10 startups, with each receiving between $500,000 and $5 million. Priority areas include energy storage, low-carbon materials, and industrial cooling systems. The technology giants will actively participate in the process to promote the adoption of innovations.
This step is particularly significant given that data centers are increasingly becoming targets of public criticism due to their excessive burden on energy systems. Last year alone, due to public opposition, construction projects worth $156 billion were halted, driven by fears of rising electricity prices. According to research, data center energy consumption doubled between 2018 and 2023, and by the end of the decade, electricity prices could increase by 6-29%.
According to Elemental Impact's Executive Director, Dawn Lippert, this partnership will help companies implement technologies that provide the public with reliable, renewable energy. The initiative also aims to share its results with the industry to minimize deployment risks for technologies in the future.
