The Trump administration is planning agreements with several biotechnology companies on drug prices

The Trump administration plans to announce agreements reached with several biotechnology companies on Monday regarding drug price reductions.

Under the agreements, companies will offer discounts to state Medicaid programs on outpatient medications. The goal is for the Medicaid program to pay roughly the same amount for these medications as other countries do. Participation in the agreement will not be mandatory for individual states.

In return, these companies will no longer be required to make additional price cuts on drugs under Medicare. Relief from import tariffs is also being discussed in negotiations with some companies.

It is not yet clear how much these agreements will reduce government spending or what impact they will have on Medicaid beneficiaries. The program already receives significant discounts from manufacturers on medications, while patients typically pay a small amount for prescription drugs.

According to the White House, the administration continues negotiations with pharmaceutical companies on reducing drug prices. The names of specific companies have not yet been disclosed.
